Over the past several months we have had numerous programs notify the electrical training ALLIANCE about issues that they were having with the legacy test generator. The primary issue was the inability to generate both a student version of the test and an answer key at the same time.

In most instances our support team was able to reach out to the programs experiencing this issue and help resolve it; however, it has recently become more of a problem.

The Issue

The support team has identified that the issue stems from the security requirements of many of the web browsers as well as security requirements within anti-virus software (in short it is a trust issue in the communication process between the test generator site and the web browser). This is in part because the programming script was originally developed back in the early 2000’s. The team has found a way to resolve the issues with new program script and also enable SSL (Secure Socket Layer), which is an encryption method used between web browsers and websites.

The Fix

On November 12th 2018 we will be upgrading the security of the Test Generator system (testgenerator.njatc.org) in order to utilize SSL encryption (https).  At that time, you will no longer be able to access the Test Generator through the existing CD interface or from any of the stand-alone executable files downloaded prior to November 12th 2018. The upgrade of the website and executable file will increase security and improve compatibility with contemporary web browsers and operating systems.

The Process

On November 12th 2018 you will need to download a new executable file to access your Test Generator content.  You should not notice any change in the functionality of the website or executable files. All logins, subscriptions, existing tests, and folders will still be available and function as they had before the upgrade.

The Reminder

Prior to November 12th we will send out another broadcast email with the link to the executable file. Note: You will no longer use the CD to login to the test generator. The link will provide a shortcut that you will place on your desktop (or folder) so the test generator can be opened without the disk.
