Registered Apprenticeship sponsors are required to take steps to foster workplace environments where all apprentices feel safe, welcomed, and treated fairly. Toward that end, the apprenticeship Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) regulations require sponsors to provide anti-harassment training to apprentices and other individuals who work regularly with their apprentices.

The electrical training ALLIANCE has completed and made available training to meet this need. The Harassment Prevention : Awareness and Responsibilities course is ready for enrollment from within the Training Management System. The intended audience for this course is for apprentices, instructors, training center administration staff and all other individuals who work regularly with their Apprentices.

All created content for meeting EEO regulations, as well as the IBEW-NECA Committee policies, were obtained with support from Robert L. Duston, a partner with Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr in Washington DC.

The Course Layout is a bit different from others. Read on to get acquainted with it and it’s features including how to use the course, what LMS user roles may complete it, how to document completion and more.

Course Layout

  • This is an online, asynchronous course
  • All training and reference material for this course is contained within the LMS lessons themselves
  • The knowledge checks within each lesson must be completed and passed with a minimum score of 80% success for the lesson
  • Once all lessons are completed, a Certificate of Completion is made available for download or print
  • All instructions for how to interact and use the training are spelled out on the course landing page

Completion Tracking

There are two ways of tracking completion.

  1. Student progression reporting for Administrators

2. Self tracking right on the course landing page for use by all those completing the course including instructors and students. *** This is different from all other courses. Here the learners may both be the LMS instructor role as well as the student roles in a session.

Reporting on Students

Reporting on Student progress may be accessed adjacent to where the Grader Report is found. The Completions report is navigated to by selecting Reports –> Course/Session Reports –> Session Overview –> Course Ribbon –> Completions button. There, green checkmarks denote successful progress and ultimately, completion status. *** Look for more features to this style of reporting and uses in the future. Currently it will only be found for this course. This reporting is only for student progress.

Self Tracking

To the right of each lesson item on the course landing page is a box. This box will get checked by successfully completing the lesson.

In doing so, the next lesson is made available for access and completion. After completing all lessons, and receiving the check in each of the lesson boxes, a Certificate of Completion will be made available for downloading, saving and printing/filing. *** The self progress tracking and access to the Completion Certificate may be obtained by both the student and instructor user roles. The Certificate utilizes the name of the person in the LMS, thus TDs or TDA’s who access from the Training Management System only, will not receive a recognizable name on the document. Be sure the logged in user of this course is as a student or instructor account.

Course Topic Layout

Lesson 1: Prohibited Harassment | The first lesson of the Harassment Prevention course introduces you to the reasons for and the concepts to be learned from the course.

Lesson 2: Sexual Harassment | This lesson focuses on a specific type of illegal harassment.  Sexual harassment is a violation of federal law, DOL regulations, and the Committee’s policies.

Lesson 3 Reporting Harassment |The Committee encourages all apprentices who are being harassed to report it. This includes harassment by fellow apprentices, or anyone involved in administering the apprenticeship program, both on and off the job.

Completing the course is only the beginning—the real goal of this course is to give the learner a thorough understanding of harassment so you can help to make your place of employment a better, more inclusive place for all. Use the knowledge gained from this course to be an example within your organization, stand up to harassers, and advocate for victims of harassment.
