evitp_3In a relationship between the electrical training ALLIANCE and the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program (EVITP), electric vehicle training is now available in the LMS. EVITP provides training and certification  for electricians installing electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE). evitp_4As a voluntary non-profit collaboration of electrical industry organizations, EVITP supports developing electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure for residential and commercial markets.

As an EV Industry collaborative, EVITP industry partner organizations contribute to, and develop, curriculum to train and certify electricians. This training teaches industry best practices in electric vehicle infrastructure installation, commissioning, and maintenance.

EVITP is brand neutral and does not endorse or recommend suppliers. However, EVITP does include a wide range of brand-specific training to insure that EVITP certified electricians are able to expertly and safely install a wide variety of electric vehicle infrastructure including charging stations, distributed generation, facility based electrical storage devices, and other industry products.

The partnership between the electrical training Alliance and EVITP means that the electrical training Alliance will handle the following:

  • Receiving requests from Training Directors for EVITP course materials, and collecting fee payments
  • Distribution of all EVITP training materials to JATCs including the Workbook and PowerPoint slides.
  • Distribution of all EVITP exams
  • Setting the rules for, and oversight of, all EVITP exam proctoring
  • Setting the rules for, and administration of, all exam grading

EVITP will be responsible for:

    • evitpObtaining initial payment records from electrical training ALLIANCE, and maintaining long term records of EVITP course  fee payments
    • Issuing EVITP certificates
    • Maintaining records of EVITP certificate holders
    • Administering and maintaining the EVITP website
  • Marketing and promotion of the EVITP program to the marketplace

EVITP Training Includes:evitp_2

    • Automobile manufacturer’s charging performance integrity specifications
    • EV battery types, specifications, and charging characteristics
    • Utility interconnect, notice, policies and requirements
    • Utility grid stress precautions including demand response integration technologies
    • Charging station fundamentals including brand/model-specific installation instructions for:
        • Level 1: 120 VAC 15 amps
      • Level 2: 120-240 VAC 60 amps
    • Service-level site assessments, load calculations, and upgrade implementation
    • Integration of electric vehicle infrastructure with distributed generation
    • Understanding Internet Protocol (IP) networking of charging stations
    • National Electrical Code (NEC), standards, and requirements
    • National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E and OSHA regulations
    • National Electrical Installation Standards (NEIS) for electric vehicle equipment
  • First responder safety and fire hazard measures

To obtain EVITP certification using the LMS a JATC must use the following method:certified-stamp1

  1. Instructor Training:  Consistent with the policies of other electrical training Alliance technical certification programs, such as Instrumentation, specialty certification for instructors to teach EVITP is encouraged, but is not required.
  2. A total fee $75.00per student is collected for the EVITP LMS Course; course materials, and access to the EVITP Workbook on the LMS, EVITP administration, and the EVITP Certification (if the exam is passed) is included with this fee. The whole fee is sent to the electrical training ALLIANCE with the request for the latest EVITP training and presentation materials. Session fee is $30.00. The $75 total fee paid by students includes taking the certification exam up to three times if needed.
  3. Students use the LMS to study, and attend course instruction from an EVITP instructor to prepare for the certification exam
  4. The certification exam is generated from the Test Generator
  5. The Exam is delivered and proctored by the Training Director, ATD, or any electrical training ALLIANCE Aptitude Test Administrator
  6. For apprentices, EVITP will issue the certificate upon graduation. To be certain that EVITP has a complete and accurate record of all students who pass the exam, JATCs will be responsible for sending EVITP a class roster with final exams scores at the conclusion of each class. Upon graduation, it will be up to the JATC or individual who has taken the course to contact the EVITP office and request their certificate. It is suggested that the graduating apprentice receive their EVITP certificate during graduation along with their Apprenticeship Completion Certificate– if possible.
  7. Upon successful completion of the exam, the exam proctor will send the following information to EVITP.  Exam proctor to send: First and last name of student, test score (or pass/fail), classification (JIW or Apprentice) JATC Name/Local Union NumberAll materials should be dated and signed by exam proctor prior to submission. Please use the EVITP form EVITP FORM.XLSX to submit passing results.
