The electrical training ALLIANCE is proud to announce the latest interactive animation on the subject of “Box Layout”. Traditionally we have left acquiring the skill of associated with “laying out” the top of a panel for conduit entries, and their associated holes (or knockouts), to on-the-job experience. This did not always allow a “safe” (aka inexpensive) environment for an apprentice to do the math associated with this process and implement this math to the real world material. This new simulator allows the students the opportunity to practice (via 10 distinct applications) this skill in an environment which will not have any ill-effects if an error is made.
This new activity, titled the Box Entry Layout Activity, is available in the Conduit Level 1 course in both Lessons 1 and 4 (this correlates to both lessons since fractions are reviewed in Lesson 1 and conduit types are explored in Lesson 4). To aid Instructors in answering student’s questions about this activity, the math associated with each of the solutions to the 10 activities is posted as an Instructor Resource for these lessons.
Future plans for this simulator include the ability to take what is currently a learning (or practice tool) and convert it into a smartphone app which can be used in the field to do the math “on-the-fly” by simply entering a few parameters like panel width, number and size of conduits, and needed spacing to product all of the necessary measurements to accurately layout the needed entry points into the enclosure.
